Giant Christmas trees are becoming a tradition in Umbria. For years, thousands of visitors have travelled to Gubbio to see the lighting of the world’s largest Christmas tree, set out on the slopes of Mount Ingino.
This year, a Christmas tree will also appear on Lake Trasimeno. This time the lights will decorate the beautiful lake itself, rather than the surrounding hills.
Castiglione del Lago will host the new event. One of its surprises is the arrangement of 2,450 lights that will form the tree on the water.
The event aims to celebrate this region and support an environmental initiative. For €20, visitors can adopt a light and fund a new living tree for the town, to be planted by 2020.
CHRISTMAS TREE ON LAKE TRASIMENO: THE DETAILS
The tree on the water will be visible every evening from 7 December from the medieval fortress of Castiglione del Lago. A Christmas market with local products and performances will also open in the area.
Some activities and areas inside the fortress require a €5 ticket.
